Biography
Multi-platinum songwriter, producer & artist, based in the Scandinavian city of Trondheim, Norway. Three decades of shaping sounds across the globe.
It all started on a professional level when Jan got signed as a producer and artist to the now legendary Cheiron studio in Stockholm (famous for Max Martin and Denniz Pop) back in 1994, working in the studio with his own dance-project. The song «Party People» eventually got released on Mega Records (Ace of Base ++) in Denmark, becoming a scandinavian club-hit.
Later on he teamed up with Thomas Heyerdahl, forming the pop project Di-Mico, and got signed to Universal in Norway (then Polygram) after a bidding-war. The first single "All I Wanna Do" peaked at #11 in the charts. The year 2000 also saw him writing and producing «Can It Be Love» for Polydor UK for their artist Samantha Mumba. The song was a B-side to her UK #1 single «Gotta Tell You». He signed his first publishing agreement with Chrysalis in Scandinavia (through Pelle Lidell and David Rowley).
The early years of the new millennium was quite a busy time songwriting-wise, racking up cuts with Nikki Webster (platinum Australia), Scandal'Us (Popstars Australia — platinum), TikTak (double-platinum Finland, the single «I Need Your Touch» peaked at #19), Nikki Webster's second album (platinum Australia) and numerous local cuts in a variety of territories. Swedish group A*Teens recorded "Friends 4 Ever". "Friends.." with Nikki Webster has also been featured on an episode of the US hit TV-show Lizzy McGuire (Disney).
Jan and Thomas teamed up once again, forming the DeepFrost songwriting / production team, to focus solely on writing and producing songs. During this period they remixed Stevie Wonder's song «So What The Fuss» through Universal Holland, had songs on hold for The Pussycat Dolls and Rachel Stevens, remixed Trey Songz and wrote and produced 3 songs on Idol runner-up Sandra Lyng, together with friends in Stargate (also at the time based in the same city of Trondheim).
He co-wrote the song «1, 2, 3» for the multi-platinum selling Dutch pop-project Chipz, debuting at #1 on the Dutch charts and selling over 80,000 singles in Holland alone. To date, Chipz has sold over 1.5 million records in Europe total.
Numerous placements worldwide followed: Anything But Monday (US), Anna Tsuchiya — famous Japanese actress / model (#10 in Japan), HotCha (3-piece girlgroup from Hong Kong), and the single «Sticky Hands» for Universal Music Norway artist Jorun Stiansen (Norwegian Idol winner — reaching #6 on the charts).
Several in-house projects were developed, such as the girlgroup «Red Divaz» (signed to DJBeat Records Scandinavia) and the group B.I.C. (signed to Big Star Records / Iceberg Records in Denmark). Jan also had a Japanese #2 with the Swedish novelty act MachoMan (international chart) outselling top artists like Mariah Carey and Madonna. He also co-wrote with Swedish writer Robert Wells (Celine Dion) on two tracks.
Co-writes with German producers Noizmakers followed, for their Warner Music Germany project Sistanova, delivering "Hypnotisiert" for their album. A co-write with UK's Liz McClarnon (ex Atomic Kitten) was also completed. 2010 also brought European chart success with the Spanish artist Soraya Arnelas, who recorded the song "In My Blood".
